An Important Notice on Unlacquered Polished Brass

When you first receive your unlacquered polished brass hardware, it's possible that some hardware pieces may already have a patina developing. To address this, we’ve recently begun working with our manufacturer to ship all unlacquered polished brass hardware in sealed packaging. This minimizes exposure to air and moisture before it reaches you, preventing patina from developing.

As we cycle through inventory, we expect all unlacquered brass pieces to be sealed this way in the coming months.

If you notice varying levels of patina among your hardware pieces, here’s what you can do:

✅ Leave them as they are—once installed, they will closely equalize in patina levels fairly quickly, so as to be not very visually different.

✅ Wipe your hardware with a brass polish and a soft cloth to remove all patina.

Patina: What to Expect

The patina that naturally develops on unlacquered brass is one of its most sought-after characteristics, for a traditional and charming aged look.

Unlacquered polished brass with no patina has a very soft golden-yellow hue. In certain lighting, it can even appear silvery—resembling polished nickel. However, it does not take long for the patina to visibly develop—about 1 week or sooner.

Over time, the brass will deepen into its signature rich golden color with warm copper undertones that so many find appealing. The natural oils from your hands, along with humidity in the air, can help speed up the patina process.

Cleaning & Polishing

You can safely clean unlacquered polished brass using a soft cloth with mild soap and water, without removing its patina.

To restore its original shine, use a brass polish and a soft cloth (we recommend microfiber) to remove any patina. After polishing, the patina will naturally begin to develop again over time just as before.
