Melodie Maurer Williams

is a life-long resident of Salt Lake
City, Utah.

She studied art at the University of Utah and has
studied with Katheryn Stats, Ovanis Berberian, Zhang Win Xin
and Kate Starling. Williams paints in the impressionist genre
and her work has been most significantly influenced by the
early twentieth century California Impressionists and the
Russian Impressionists of the same era.
Her oil paintings have been displayed in exhibitions throughout
the United States including several one woman shows in Salt
Lake City, Utah and Montgomery, Alabama. She has also
been represented in galleries in Atlanta, Georgia and Boston,
Massachusetts.
For the last twenty years she has taught impressionist oil
painting at the Petersen Art Center and in her own studio. She
has been the instructor for several on location workshops and
loves the joy of seeing her students succeed.
Painting both out of doors and in her studio, she has a special
love of the play of light on the land, describing painting as, "the
pleasure of chasing light", Williams considers atmosphere and
essence to be her subject matter and the form of the
landscape to be the frame they rest on.
In her words, "I feel my role as an artist is to stop and take
notice of what we are often too hurried to perceive. Art gives
us the opportunity to observe, and by doing so, we are more
likely to truly see. It is my desire to record my gratitude and in
some small way, reflect the vision of God's creations.
