The image that inspired this painting has been a family Christmas tradition for decades. Utah artist LeConte Stewart painted a copy of the Santa from J.C Leyendecker's 1907 "Circle" Illustration, and would gift it to friends and neighbors for Christmas. LeConte was first cousins with my grandmother and she was the happy recipient of a print which she passed on to my family.  The print has been a beloved part of my Christmas since childhood and has always hung above the fireplace in my parent's home during the holiday season. I wanted to revisit the magic of Santa Claus by putting a modern twist on this classic painting by painting a master copy with the classic color palette of gold and royal blue to match the twinkle in his jolly eyes. I hope it becomes a family tradition for you too! Merry Christmas!
